Educational Therapy

• Assessment
In addition to comprehensive evaluations, brief assessment may be needed to increase the likelihood of classroom success. Understanding the educational and social needs of a student in the “real time” school environment, along with the contextual factors that influence student performance, are vital next steps following formal evaluation. Specific diagnostic and behavioral assessments, classroom observation, and team-building with teachers and professionals are a crucial, yet often omitted link to ensure student achievement.

• School Liaison
With parent and student permission, I collaborate with teachers to understand the student’s needs in the classroom and to coordinate my strategies with the teacher’s curriculum and daily lessons. Coaching students and parents on best methods for communicating with teachers and administrators provides practical reality-based solutions.

• Systematic Learning Strategies
Individuals (of any age) may need to learn “how to think”: the process of generating ideas, communicating orally and in writing, and getting “on their game”. To cope with multiple demands of school and work, I help clients enhance their executive functioning skills: in organization, time management, strategic planning, and self-regulation.

• Qualified Referrals
Finding the right professional to match individual needs is often the most difficult task parents confront. I maintain an up-to-date database of local referrals to psychologists, psychiatrists, and specialists. I offer my experience working with schools and placements, to help parents navigate service needs.
